The Little Stool that Could

Well, I'm running a bit slow on projects lately. I think it's because I lack motivation. I'm totally willing to buy my decor these days instead of re-doing or making it. Maybe when I get in the nesting phase of this pregnancy, I'll but out some amazing and large-quantity projects. But for now...I'm staying small.

My friend asked me to do a little re-do of a stool her kids use. I was feeling extra energetic that day so I said sure! Here's what she gave me:
 (Warning! Phone pics!)

Yeah, I know...ummmmm.....

But, I gave it a nice cleaning and then sat down to figure out what to do with it. She said her bathroom colors were turquoise, green and orange, and she'd like the stool to reflect those colors. For some reason, I started thinking of plaid....First I primed and then the whole stool got a nice coat of turquoise spray paint.
Then, I started taping. I measured 1" spaces and taped them off and then painted a couple coats of orange. Then, I free-handed a small green stripe next to the orange. After that dried, I taped off 2" sections and used a darker blue to add a stripe going across the orange. I added another small green stripe next to the blue.

I hope she likes it!

I think it turned out a pretty good plaid. I had to seriously distress it because when I pulled up the tape a lot of the orange came off (oops...used acrylic paint...not such a good idea). Then, I gave it three coats of clear wax to protect it from little toes and handed it back to her.

  1. Such a cute stool Meg.I like the worn look so it's ok if a little paint came up. Just take it easy you don't have to be super industrious all the time!
