Make an old light fixture new...

Let's take a look at this lovely light fixture....

Yikes, right? Wanna hear the story behind it? Ok, I need to give you some background first. My husband's mother (my MIL...) is an insanely good artist. She can pick up a brush and just create a landscape. Like with her eyes closed. Somehow, my husband assumed I could do the same thing. So, he found this "paint-yourself" light fixture and thought I could make it this gorgeous thing....yeah, not so much. But, being the good husband he is, he said he liked it and hung it up.
This was before I knew about spray paint. Or developed a deep love of spray paint.
So, I decided the time had come to rectify this horrible paint job. I wanted to spray paint it....but guess what? Although I have some far in the ways of paint and spray paint...I have not learned a thing about taking apart light fixtures, electricity, etc. I did NOT want to unwind all the wires and then try to put it all back together again before hubs got home. (I like to surprise him with my mini-makeovers. Sometimes I wait to see how long it takes him to even notice my little surprises....it can take a long time).

So, I got out my trusty sponge brush and my acrylic black and burnt umber paints and got to work! And here is the result.....

You can see where I missed a few little spots...

Ah, well....I still think it's a HUGE improvement.
