*Don't forget to join the Shaklee giveaway going on now!The signs of spring have finally arrived...in my house. Outside it's still a grayish slush called snow. Sigh.
I found this cheese dome and candlestick at a lovely thrift store in town. I immediately thought of those cloches going around blogland and had to snatch them up and make one for myself. The dome base was brown wood and the candlestick was black. I used Gorilla Glue to adhere them together and then painted them a nice caramel latte color. I thought it was too dark, though, and put a coat of ivory over the top and then sanded it down.
I like it. The little grapevine wreath in there is also a good will find and I spray painted it last fall. It fits perfectly inside the cloche.
Oooh, I love me some chippy paint.
This little birdie was black and a little too dark for me. I added a light coat of red and then sanded it down a bit.
I might add a little bit of white to make it a bit brighter...maybe not. We'll see.
This is sort of the "kids corner." Ah, who am I kidding? The whole house could be called the "kids corner."
The birdhouses we found at JoAnne's for $1 each and the kids had so much fun painting them.
I made the mistake of telling them we'd hang them up for real birds, but it's still too cold outside and I don't think a real bird would fit in there anyway.
So, up in the kitchen they went. It's just hot glue and twine on the roof of the houses and then I used tacks to stick them in the ceiling. It makes the kids so happy every time they walk in and see them. I'm going to keep them up for spring, I think.
So, with my little bird and birdhouses and my bright cloche with my fake nest...it kinda feels like spring around here.
Kinda. We're still waiting for the real thing.
