Before the sick bug got me, I decided to try my hand on a project I've seen from the Shanty 2 Chic gals and from Allison at A Glimpse Inside.
A friend had a birthday coming up and of course, in my usual way, I waited until the last, last, last minute to try and find the perfect gift for her. I thought this would be a fun way to say, "happy birthday dear friend!" I hope she felt that way as well. :)
The finials I purchased at Lowe's. Believe me, I've tried to find them other places, but it seems no one else believes in helping us crafters out. My Lowe's is about 30 minutes away and so I braved it and took the long trek out there one day while a friend agreed to watch the kids.
The wood block I found under my husband's tool box in the garage. Heh....had some serious cleaning to do with that thing, but I was glad I found it!
I drilled a hole in the top of the block and screwed the finial in. Fit like a charm! I used my antique white craft paint and gave it a couple of coats. Then, I sanded my edges down and used my "stayz-on" ink to distress the sides and finial.
Finally, I used my spray on adhesive to attach the burlap and free-handed the "C" on with some burnt umber craft paint. I couldn't find the fancy corner doo-dads the Shanty girls used, so I cheated and just painted some dots on the corners.
This project was fast, easy, cheap and FUN to make! I'm definitely going to have to make one for my house as well!

Simple and yet really striking! Great idea.
