Birdhouses and Candlesticks

Hey everyone!
Having a fun weekend?
Remember my lovely cloche? Want to see it before I painted it? I found a pic! Here it is....

Once I got the glue on, I used my bowl of oranges to weight it all down. Yum...oranges....

Ok, enough walking through memory lane. It seems like I still have a thing for birdhouses. I found this idea over at The Speckled Dog. She does such great stuff. I wanted to try!

I picked up the birdhouses for $1 at Jo-Anne's and the candlesticks I found at GW. I painted the birdhouses with a dark walnut stain and then let them dry.

This is where my impatience comes into play. It's still FREEZING here, too cold to do spray paint...do I ever let that stop me? NO! I took my birdhouses outside and tried to paint them in about 30 degrees.

I'll never learn.

The paint dripped and all those rounded edges made it hard to get it all done. So, I tried to use some acrylic paints to cover up my mess. It still wasn't how I pictured it! I sanded, used more distressing methods....and, well...here's what I came up with:

Not totally what I was going for, but I don't hate it.

I kind of like the rough look...

...it's definitely growing on me.

I think I'll keep it!

  14. I saw these at The Speckled Dog about a week ago and I've been thinking about them. I haven't found any large wooden candlesticks yet, though. Yours turned out great. I really love them.

  15. I think they look terrific, Meg. If you hadn't told us about your problems with them, I bet we would have never suspected anything was wrong. ;)
