Here's what I've accomplished so far...and, let me just preface this by saying I took this pics at night...in a window-less bathroom...so they are far from perfect. Anyone know how to take good pics in those conditions? I'd love to find out!
Ok...here's a pic of my one wall I had to decorate. Can I just say...I'm in love with a couple of these finds.
This rusty old bed frame (I think that's what it is...it could have been from a crib), I found at our local antique market. I'm not telling you what I paid for it, because I don't think it would be classified as "thrifty." I just love it, though. I bought some little hooks to hang it up and the rusted spots just call out to me....
Since this is my kids bathroom, we're using children's books to decorate right now. This book is a gift from our friends who lived in India for two years. I loved the bright colors!
I don't know how long it will last in the bathroom, because I just love it so much!
Have you guys heard of The Graphics Fairy? This was my first time to use her graphics, but I fell in love. The frame I found in the "as-is" section of Ikea for $3. It had a little ding on the bottom...
...and I covered it with a little twine flower and a pearl hot-glued in the center. I think it does the trick of hiding the dent.
The Graphics Fairy also provided these lovely images...Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, make up the quartet of fables for my children to gaze upon. (Waxing poetic here...)
Ok, here's the hard one...I distressed the vanity and then ran into a wall. My hardware in the bathroom is shiny chrome, because we didn't want to spend the money re-doing everything. But, shiny chrome doesn't really go with a distresed vanity. So, I set up a poll and the majority vote was to go with a bronze hardware that would better suite the vanity. Well...hubs wasn't agreeing with that assessment and we have to keep the homefront happy, right? So, I compromised. I bought bronze hardware and then used a little silver Rub 'n Buff to sort of make it match with the silver we had in the bathroom already...
What do you think?
I like how the dark bronze still comes through a tad...
Ok, I know that this is for a knob, and I'm thinking we'll get one to put in the center...but, I'll be honest--when I bought this, I had no idea it was a knob plate! I thought it was just a decorative plaque or something! Ha! Hubs informed me of it's real use when I got home...after I had installed it...Whoops. This is a faux-drawer...so, it doesn't really function as a drawer. Sigh. I'm learning!
I love these handles. I must find more projects to use them!
Ok, that's where I am today! Part 3 of the bathroom is replacing the light fixture and beautifying the mirror. Wish me luck!

Love the simple colors and the wreath!

Gorgeous! I love how you used the bed frame as a wall hanging! It matches so nicely with the antiqued vanity as well. Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your hubby didn't like the orb idea. This looks better than any of our suggestions!!! And I love the hanging bed frame- I need to find one. Maybe I should figure out where I would put it first....
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love the wreath! Looking forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteLove that crib frame! And the bathroom is so cute. Who cares about the knob plate, don't we all re-purpose as we see fit anyway? I think it looks great. I hope that you will link this up with my Show and Share Sunday linky party, going on all week. http://craftygeordi.blogspot.com/2011/01/show-and-share-sunday_23.html
ReplyDeleteI really love your rail turned magazine rack! It's very creative and looks fantastic in your bathroom. Looks like the paint is flaking off though--with an item so old it's almost certainly lead based, and I'm thinking of my little one who would likely spend every bathroom visit picking at it. Wonder if there's a sealer you could put on it to protect everyone from the lead?
ReplyDeletevery cute . everything goes together so well
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at crib rails in a new way! Thanks for sharing that. Your bathroom looks beautiful. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteUsing that bed rail as a book rack is genius! :) That's exactly what we could use in our upstairs bath for my daughter's books, because there's not enough space near the potty for a magazine rack. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteOhhh yes. LOVE that magazine rack, and that wreath has my name all over it! Rustic goodness at it's best. What a lovely wall!
