Happy Birthday Dad!

My Dad turned 60 last week.

Quite the milestone, wouldn't you say?

He went to Hawaii. Lest you think I'm the most amazing daughter and paid for his trip---I did not. He went on his own (with his wife).

How do you top a trip to Hawaii?? I sent him some chocolate covered strawberries at his hotel. Surprise! Heh.

For this kind of birthday, you need to do more, though, right?

But what???

Well, most of my gifts lately have been of the "memory" variety, i.e. pictures. Pictures of me and my siblings as kids, my own children, pics of holidays, family reunions, you get the idea.

I wanted to do something a little different, though. Maybe make a little collage? A sophisticated collage. Hmmmm.....I ordered this large print of pictures from Target. I didn't count the fact that some of them were from the good ole cell phone. They were grainy and gross.

Some wonderful friends of mine gave me a gift card to Michaels for my birthday. Awesome. I went and bought the canvas, some rubber stamps, Stazon ink, and other what-nots. It was my first time using these stamps. Not sure if I did it right...ah, well.

(I probably should have waited for the canvas paint to completely dry as well. Huh.)

The problem with starting something without a clear picture in mind is that you're not really sure if you love the finished product.

I used some off-white paint and chocolate brown to cover the canvas and the decal. It was pretty boring, so I used my silver acrylic paint and dry-brushed it over the brown. I also mixed some silver with my Mod-podge and used it to cover the entire front of the canvas. It has a neat little metallic sheen to it now.

What do you think?

Should I send it to him?

  3. I think it is perfect. The problem is you see what you could have done better, but no one else (least of all your dad) will see those little imperfections.

  4. I think it looks great and I'm sure he will love it. I say give it to him!! :-)
