My Birthday Present to Me

Hello dear readers!

Today (August 11) is my birthday! Yeah-Hooray! I've had a pretty awesome day so far. I got some fun balloons and donuts (who can resist?) from close friends....I got to drop the kids off at the Ikea playroom while I browsed the store for an hour. Then, we ate there FOR FREE! (Yes, Ikea is having a "kids eat free" deal until Aug. 15. Run!!) After we came home, one of my youngsters actually took his nap! And...while the other children had their quiet time, I gave myself a birthday present!

I cleaned up and organized the laundry room! HA!!! Yes, I know. This is a present? But, trust me, when you see the BEFORE:

Yes, this is what I was dealing with. Our laundry room is not finished, so we've just been shoving junk in there willy-nilly. I couldn't take it anymore! Something had to be done! Lots of the junk got moved up into the attic or just thrown out. Love it when we can get rid of junk!

Well, I couldn't convince my hubby to spend the $$$ to put real walls up in the laundry room. I get it! Totally! The $$$ can be spent better elsewhere (like on clothes...for me). So, I needed another solution. I decided to use tension shower curtain rods ($3 per rod at Ikea) and some sheers for $5 for 2 panels. Awesome.

I bought some baskets for organizing (socks, drying bags, stain spray, etc.)

Some wire baskets for dryer sheets and the stainless steel thingy is for used dryer sheets and lint.

I'd like to find a room divider to hide this mess, but when I started pricing them I was amazed at how expensive they were! I'll have to keep my eye out for a deal!

Happy Birthday to ME! :)

  1. Happy Birthday! You did a great job using the sheers for your wall. I like all the organizational doobie-jiggies.

  2. Happy birthday! I thought you were going to tell us you got a washer and dryer! I'm with you on the organizing; it's great when a space is all tidy. I like the idea of the sheers. A quick fix and it gives the room a little elegance. And the baskets and such are great organizers. Well done!

  6. Happy Birthday! At first I thought you were going to say that you got a new washer and dryer for your birthday and I was going to crack up because I asked my hubby for a new vacuum cleaner for my birthday this year! LOL! The sheers were a fabulous idea. It looks great...but the real question is does it make you WANT to do laundry?

room divider, keep your eye out for doors. Even bifold louvered doors. I made some by simply changing out the hinges.
    happy belated birthday!

  12. I did the same thing in our basement laundry room!!! Except I used sheets and just stapled them to the wood haha!

I also saw these fun things, at ikea, gosh I feel like they were in the kids section? or maybe the curtain section? they weren't curtains but like a divider type thing that hung from the ceiling!

I think these were it http://www.ikea.com/us/en/search/?query=panel+curtain But i don't remember them being so curtainy!

  14. Happy Birthday!! :) You did a great job working with what you have for the time being! :)

I see that IKEA has a new room divider out (in their 2011 catalogue) that's just over $100 if I remember correctly...maybe $130?
